It Happened On #6

I’m not going to work out today due to medical reasons therefore I have a lot of spare time. Guess what I’m going to do with that spare time…

I’ll start the day off with an It Happened On post. Today is a more exciting day in history than yesterday

It happened on October 3 1863…President Abraham Lincoln announced that the nation will celebrate an official Thanksgiving holiday on the November 26, 1863. He did this expressing gratitude for a pivotal Union Army victory at Gettysburg. Thereafter, the fourth Thursday of every November would be considered an official U.S. holiday of Thanksgiving

The fourth Thursday of November remained the annual day of Thanksgiving from 1863 until 1939. Franklin D. Roosevelt changed it to the third Thursday, hoping to boost the economy by providing buyers and sellers a few extra days to conduct business between the Thanksgiving and holidays. In 1941, however, the official Thanksgiving holiday was re-set to the fourth Thursday of November

Also on October 3 1995, O.J Simpson was acquitted of the brutal 1994 double murder of his estranged wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. Simpson’s lawyers convinced jurors that Simpson’s guilt had not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt

There it is, Honest Abe gives us Thanksgiving holiday and Simpon’s trial
