It Happened On #15

Today’s history lesson isn’t so bad. It’s somewhat interesting

Without further adieu, here’s another It Happened On

It happened on October 12 1492…After sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, Italian explorer Christopher Columbus sights an island, thinking he has reached East Asia but was really the New World (The Americas)

During his lifetime, Columbus led a total of four expeditions to the New World, discovering different Caribbean islands, the Gulf of Mexico, and the South and Central American mainlands, but he never accomplished his original goal—a western ocean route to the great cities of Asia

Also on October 12 1819, King Louis I of Bavaria, marries Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The Bavarian royalty invited the citizens of Munich to attend the festivities. The decision to repeat the festivities yearly gave rise to the tradition of the annual Oktoberfest. It now begins in late September and lasts until the first Sunday in October. Alcohol consumption is an important part of the modern festival, and more than 1 million gallons of beer are consumed annually at Oktoberfest

Exciting stuff. Unfortunately, Columbus died in 1506 without realizing the great scope of what he achieved. He discovered  the New World whose riches would help make Spain the wealthiest and most powerful nation on earth

Lesson: Even if you’re wrong, you’re still valuable
